Many of us know Psalm 46:10 by heart:
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God . . .”(NIV)
Sometimes being still seems impossible—especially during the holiday season. I don’t have any decorations up. I haven’t done any Christmas shopping. I still haven’t found my Advent wreath. There’s just so much to do, and such a short time in which to do it! But then, I came across this same verse in The Message translation:
“Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God . . .” (The Message)
Today, the Second Sunday of Advent, let’s step out of the traffic, out of the overwhelming busyness and noise, and turn our attention to God. Take a few deep breaths.
Thank you, God, for always being with us. Even when we’re so busy we can’t think straight. Help us to step out of the traffic, to be still enough to remember that Advent is a time to prepare ourselves for the arrival of Your Son, Christ Jesus. Amen.
