Christmas in July–Day 10

“Let God tear down the walls that keep you from being connected with others.”

The childhood tragedy that Ali survived left her with some emotional as well as physical scars. To protect her heart from hurt, she built a wall around it, never realizing that such a wall would keep out good things, such as relationships. Her experiences at the Castle at Silverleaf, especially learning of God’s love, broke down the walls, opening her heart and making it ready to be open to other people.

Joshua 6 tells of a famous wall that God broke down—the wall of Jericho. The people of Israel obediently followed the Lord’s directions and silently followed the ark of the covenant around the walled city of Jericho for six days, finally shouting after completing the circle on the seventh day. They must’ve been as shocked as the citizens of Jericho when the wall tumbled down! Israel had trusted God when He said, “Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its best soldiers over to you.” They acted in faith. That’s what it takes to tear down walls—trust in God and faith.

Sometimes, we need help to get over a wall. God provides for that, too.

2 Samuel 22:29-30 NIV — You, LORD, are my lamp; the LORD turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.
