The first thing Ali learned in her pursuit of the true meaning of Christmas was to focus on Jesus.
Jesus made these statements about Himself:
John 6:36 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life.”
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 10:7-9 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.”
John 10:11, 15 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me–”
v. 15 “. . . just as the Father knows me and I know the Father–and I lay down my life for the sheep.”
John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even through they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
In these “I am” statements, Jesus tells us He not only provides for our most basic needs but is our most basic need. He will nourish us, light our way, protect us, lay down His life for us, provide direction for us, and make us productive. When we focus on Jesus and live by believing in Him, we are blessed now in our relationship with Him, and in the future with eternal life.
